This Sausage Calzone recipe is considered an express-lane meal. It can be made quickly and eaten on the go. To save time, use store-bought pizza dough and bottled marinara sauce. The recipe makes 4 servings in about 30 minutes and leftovers can be refrigerated and re-heated.
Step by Step Instructions
Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F.
In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the sausage, ricotta, mozzarella cheese and frozen peas.
Spray the baking sheet with the cooking spray and un-roll the pizza dough onto the center. Using your fingertips, press the dough into a 14″X10″ rectangle. Then cut the dough length-wise in half, then each piece cross-wise in half to make four rectangles in total.
Place a quarter of the ricotta filling onto a half of one of the dough rectangle. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and then pinch the edges together to seal it.
Repeat the steps with the remaining dough and filling.
Bake the calzones for 25 minutes until it is well-browned on top.
Serve with marinara sauce.
Notes
Make sure to have lots of marinara sauce on the side for these Sausage Calzones! These can be a perfect snack for a group of teens or can be made and refrigerated (or even frozen) until served.
