Stuffed French Toast

Ingredients

  • Batter:
    2 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • Filling:
  • 1/2 cup of cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup of dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of medium-diced banana
  • 1/8 cup of orange juice
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • Syrup:
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • Butter, as needed
  • Other:
  • 4 (2 inches thick) pieces of challah bread

Utensils

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Saucepan

French toast with a spin – Stuffed French Toast! Make this for breakfast on the weekend and it will be a sure hit with all of your family! It’s a filling meal not only for school-aged kids, but the whole family will want in on this breakfast.

Step by Step Instructions

To Make the Batter:

Combine together all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix. Put in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

To Make the Filling:
Fold together all of the ingredients into a bowl until incorporated but with some lumps – not completely smooth.

To Make the Syrup:
Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Bring the ingredients to a boil then let it reduce by 1/3.

To Make the French Toast:
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Heat the large saute pan and add butter.

Dredge bread in the prepared batter and place in the pan.

Cook until golden on both sides (about 2 minutes).

Remove the bread from pan and let it cool.

Divide the prepared filling between two pieces of the bread and top with the remaining two pieces of bread.

Transfer the stuffed French toast to oven and bake for eight minutes.

Cut each piece of French toast in half. Serve with the cinnamon syrup.

Notes

For a dessert instead of breakfast, serve the Stuffed French Toast with some vanilla ice cream. Top with some fresh berries for extra flavor!
