Oatmeal with apple, pear, and apricot

Ingredients

  • 1 apple (peeled, cored, chopped)
  • 1 ripe pear (peeled, cored, chopped)
  • 4 ready-to-eat dried apricots (chopped)
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 heaped tablespoon rolled oats (quick-cook)

Utensils

  • Food processor or blender
  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Small saucepan
  • Large spoon

Oatmeal with apple, pear and apricot makes a very nutritious breakfast for babies six months and older. To save time in the mornings you can freeze the portions of fruit puree and then just take them out the night before making the oatmeal and let them thaw. They will be all ready to be put into the oatmeal, making a quick but tasty breakfast!

Step by Step Instructions

Put all of the fruit into a saucepan with about four tablespoons of water. Cover the saucepan.

Cook the fruit until it is tender – about six minutes.

Allow the fruit to cool for a few minutes and then put in a food processor or blender. Blend the fruit into a puree.

In order to make the oatmeal part of the breakfast, combine the oats and milk in a different small saucepan.

Bring the oats and milk to a boil, the simmer while stirring occasionally. After about 3 minutes, remove from heat.

Combine the oatmeal and fruit puree, then blend in the food processor or blender until it is a puree consistency.

Notes

As your child gets older, you can skip pureeing the fruit and oatmeal and instead stir them together. You can also mash up fruit (ie bananas) into the oatmeal when your child is at the toddler age.
