Baby Meat Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lean ground chicken, turkey or beef
  • 1/2 cup plain baby cereal - or bread crumbs, oats, wheat bran if you prefer
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • Pureed vegetables or fruit - just enough to moisten and make the meat/cereal stick together like meatballs
  • Spices as you desire

Utensils

  • Medium-sized mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon (or use your hands to mix!)
  • Large baking sheet
  • Tin foil

This Baby Meat Ball recipe is an easy and tasty way to use up leftover baby cereal. You can modify the ingredients to suit your baby’s preferences. Baby Meat Balls are a great way to get whole grains and protein into your little one’s tummy!

Step by Step Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Put the lean ground beef, chicken or turkey into a medium-sized mixing bowl.

Add the cereal of your choice and wheat germ to the meat, combine thoroughly.

Add the puréed vegetables and/or the fruit to moisten the mixture. Use as much as needed to moisten and bind the mixture together.

Form the mixture into round balls as you would when making regular meatballs.

On a baking sheet, place the meatballs about one-half inch apart. Cover the meat balls with tin foil to ensure they will not burn, as babies will have difficulty eating them if they are too hard on the outside.

Bake in the oven until they are brown and cooked throughout.

Notes

This recipe allows for variation of ingredients so you can be sure your baby will eat the meat balls. One example of a tasty combination of ingredients is ground turkey, wheat germ, baby rice cereal, a puréed sweet potato with a dash of cinnamon.
